MARI NISHIMURA is an internationally acclaimed artist based in Tokyo, New York, and Dubai. Using her hands and fingers to layer pigments, she creates emotionally charged paintings that deeply resonate with viewers — her signature motif being the dragon, a symbol of power, grace, and soul. From an early age, Nishimura has lived with synesthesia, a rare condition in which she perceives emotions and sounds as colors. This unique sensory experience gives rise to her extraordinary sense of color, which is widely praised around the world. To her, color is not merely visual — it is a language of emotion, a vibration of the soul. Her work has been described as “explosions of the soul”, and has been exhibited in major cities such as Tokyo, New York, London, Milan, Berlin, Hong Kong, Taipei, and Dubai. Her live painting performances in Taiwan, Dubai, and New York have drawn enthusiastic crowds and media attention. Additionally, her murals in restaurants in Florence and London have become popular photo spots on social media, with people visiting to experience the immersive worlds she creates. In 2025, Nishimura was officially invited by the Bulgari Hotel in Dubai to perform a special live painting event. That same year, she was also invited to the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival as a painter, a rare honor that highlights her influence beyond the realm of fine art. In Japan, her annual solo exhibitions attract collectors and fans from across the country, often resulting in long lines and sold-out shows — further proving her ability to move and inspire audiences through her vivid and soulful creations. n addition, her previous career as a creative at a major advertising agency has strongly influenced her ability to craft visually captivating experiences. This background shines through in her dynamic live painting performances, where large-scale dragons emerge in sync with powerful music — captivating global audiences with every brushless stroke. One of her recorded live performances even surpassed 4 million views online, going viral and highlighting her impact not only in the art world but also in wider cultural spheres. Fans from around the world eagerly await her live painting shows each year, drawn to the emotional power and immersive energy she brings to every performance.

MARI NISHIMURA’s art is a profound act of expressing life’s deepest emotions — sorrow, joy, pain, and hope. She paints not with brushes, but with her hands and fingers, layering emotion directly onto the canvas as if imprinting her soul. Since childhood, Mari has lived with synesthesia, a rare condition where emotions, sounds, and sensations are experienced as vivid color. For her, color is not just visual — it is emotional, spiritual, and essential. Each hue she chooses carries intention and resonance. Her color work has been praised around the world for its unique beauty — a direct reflection of this personal, sensory gift. Having lived a life full of turbulence and transformation, dragons became sacred symbols for her — embodying strength, kindness, and grace. She continues to create dragons the world has never seen, each one a manifestation of her inner truth and evolving spirit. If her art can transcend language and culture, reaching someone’s heart and becoming a spark of strength or hope, then that is her deepest purpose. That is why she paints.
